Na segunda semana de competição, o ‘Skoll Foundation Social Entrepreneurs Challenge’ lança o desafio: a instituição que conseguir cinco doações de qualquer valor para cinco ‘team members page’ dentro do seu perfil até de 15 de Outubro de 2013 concorre a 5.000 dólares. Saúde Criança is a nonprofit organization that provides
wide-ranging support to very poor Brazilian families with chronically
ill children. For 22 years, the organization has implemented a holistic,
multidimensional approach to healthcare in five critical areas: health, education, citizenship, income generation and housing.
This pioneering approach is rooted in the idea that medical treatment alone is not sufficient to lift families from the vicious cycle of illness and deep poverty.
Saúde Criança, in partnership with healthcare providers from public hospitals, identifies families that are most in need of support. Together with family members, Saúde Criança creates a “Family Action Plan” addressing each of the five critical areas mentioned above. Support is typically provided for two years, after which families are much more likely to find a path to self-sufficiency.
OUR RESULTS:
Because Saude Criança´s methodology has proven to be so effective at tackling the roots of disease, it has been replicated in 23 other health institutions throughout Brazil. It has also become public policy in Belo Horizonte, the third largest city in Brazil.
As a result of Saude Criança´s programs, the number of days of hospitalization by poor children has decreased by an average of 62%, and household income increased by 38%. Saude Criança has received honors and awards by groups around the world for its impact and scalability.
Saúde Criança was also a chapter on David Bornstein book "How to Change the World" under the formal name Renascer.
